PRAIA DEL REY GOLF COURSE

The Praia del Rey golf course was designed by the American architect Cabell B. Robinson to present the ultimate golfing challenge in the visually stunning surroundings of the Costa de Prata. Proof of his success has come with the many accolades and high rankings given to the course by the leading golf magazines.Located between beautiful Silver Coast countryside and the sparkling Atlantic Ocean, this golf course offers deep bunkers, lush fairways, sand hazards and gently rolling greens that provide an endlessly varied game. Many golfers regard it as one of the continent’s most picturesque layouts. The best views on the course come at the second hole, with its panoramic view of the ocean and the Berlengas archipelago; and at the twelfth and fourteenth where the fairways run alongside the water’s edge.

ROYAL ÓBIDOS GOLF COURSE

The Royal Óbidos golf course, designed by the late Seve Ballesteros, sits on a headland between the Atlantic Ocean and Óbidos lagoon on the Costa de Prata (Silver Coast). The views, not surprisingly, are spectacular but it is the unique golfing challenge it offers that attracts players from all over Europe. The course is characterised by the versatility of its holes and offers a testing game to players of all levels. Lakes, streams and bunkers add challenge and variety and the backdrop of forests and water is beautiful no matter where on the course it is viewed from. The first seven fairways wind around the hillside above the lagoon. The 3rd is particularly stunning, offering a Par 3 over 144 metres and a nail-biting finish on an island green. The final nine holes have views of the Atlantic with a highlight being the 18th with its panoramic view over the course and the Costa de Prata.Six of these holes wind through a network of lakes and cascades offering a playing environment that is as attractive as it is dangerous. When the game is done there is a clubhouse with a restaurant, two bars and a wide terrace where the views of the sun setting on the Silver Coast are truly wonderful.

BOM SUCESSO GOLF COURSE

Located between Óbidos lagoon and the beaches of Praia del Rei, the Guardian Bom Sucesso golf course offers both challenging golf and beautiful views over Óbidos lagoon and out towards the sea. The course, on the Silver Coast (Costa de Prata) near the medieval town of Óbidos around 60 minutes north of Lisbon, is laid out over 60 hectares and winds between the villas, hotel and spa of the Bom Sucesso golf resort. The first nine holes are on level ground while the back nine head into hilly terrain to offer a varied and challenging game. The course has been styled in the manner of old classic courses, with an element of randomness in the areas around the greens and approaches, and offers an interesting and undulating surface without being too severe. The aim is to offer something for all levels of player – from the white tees the course is difficult enough to appeal to the world’s best, while from the forward tees the less skilled will still be able to enjoy the experience of navigating a wide variety of hazards.

CAMPO REAL GOLF COURSE

At Campo Real golf course it is hard to believe you are just 45 minutes from the centre of Lisbon. This course, set in the rolling countryside of Portugal’s Silver Coast, has been built on what was once the hunting ground of kings, hence the name of campo real (royal ground). The 18 holes of this course weave through a landscape of soft hills and steep wooded valleys to create an outstanding five star Costa de Prata golfing experience. It offers a variety of challenging holes to bring fun to the game every time you play. The first nine holes were designed to be tough, with the sixth being the most difficult for many people, but the challenge brings its own rewards such as the 17th hole with its outstanding views over the resort and the vineyards. And after the final putt there is a bar and restaurant offering fine cuisine to cater for post-game appetites.

SURF

The Silver Coast is widely acknowledged as the best and most consistent spot for surfing in Portugal. The surfing action is centred on a stretch of the Costa de Prata between Ericeira and Peniche where the shape of Portugal’s coastline provides great surf conditions pretty much every day of the year. Locals say that in the surf grounds around Peniche it doesn’t matter which way the wind is blowing – the twists and turns of the coastline mean there will always be a beach where the wind is off-shore and creating perfect waves.

The climate is very mild with solid, consistent surf. Offshore morning breezes are extremely common, pushing up regular six foot waves which rise to 15 foot and larger in the winter. Some get much, much bigger than that – in Nazaré, north of Peniche, lies the famous North Canyon where big wave surfers gather every winter to ride a freakishly large wave thrown up by a rare subterranean geological feature. The biggest wave ever surfed was ridden here, a true board and bone-crushing monster almost 100 foot high.
